La cooperazione al cuore del Mediterraneo - La coopération au coeur de la Méditerranée
Results
The GEREMIA Project has developed a joint monitoring plan for the realization of 6 sampling campaigns of water, sediment and biota in 4 pilot ports (Genoa, La Spezia, Olbia and Toulon).
The results obtained allowed the identification of the health status of the marine environments investigated and were used for the definition of the integrated quality index of port waters.
In parallel to the field activities, a large number of numerical simulations were carried out to describe the dispersion of pollutants in port waters.
Through the use of analysis of large amounts of data and clustering algorithms, it was possible to identify 25 different climatic scenarios for each location that correspond to as many possible scenarios of pollutant dispersion.
All this information represents the basis on which the Decision Support System (DSS) is developed and made available to port operators.
